Unlike its other Duplex steel counterparts, the chemistry of alloy UNS 32900 has a higher content of carbon. Similar to most duplex alloys, the ASTM A790 UNS S32900 Seamless Pipe is intended to be used in applications where high strength and exceptional resistance to corrosion is desired at moderate temperature. Generally, the high alloyed chemistry permits these pipes to be used for marine engineering applications. The ASTM A789 UNS 32900 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe is known to offer very good resistance to corrosion. However, this duplex stainless steel particularly exhibits superior resistance, when applied in chloride bearing environments. The higher content of chromium gives the alloy superior resistance to oxidation. A feature of high chromium steels is their ability to generate a passivated oxide layer, which is self repairing.
Moreover, the Duplex Stainless Steel AISI 329 Welded Pipe also offers extraordinary resistance to stress corrosion, fatigue corrosion as well as pitting corrosion. Other characteristics of the alloy include its high hardness, good plasticity & high tensile strength. Because the alloying content of grade UNS S32900 is lesser in comparison to grade 2205, the cost of producing a SS 329 Duplex Pipe tends to be relatively inexpensive. Despite a higher content of carbon, the weldability of these pipes is decent even with low heat input and the alloy could be welded with the use of welding consumables. Though the material contains a small amount of nickel in its alloy, manufacturers do not recommend using the AISI 329 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe between a temperature range of 300 ⁰C – 900 ⁰C. At elevated temperature conditions, the alloy becomes brittle as it reaches the ductile to brittle transition phase. Generally in an annealed condition, the alloy is soft and ductile. But when the alloy is treated to an aging treatment or even a single precipitation treatment, the Duplex 1.4460 AISI 329 Seamless Pipe exhibits a substantial increase in its mechanical properties. Businesses pertaining to industries like cryogenic, pulp & paper, chemical, and aviation are frequent users of the highly economical ASME SA 789 UNS 32900 Pipe.
