Being a nickel-copper based alloy, Monel K500 has excellent corrosion resistance properties. Although the Monel K500 Tube is similar to its Monel 400 counterpart, in terms of its corrosion resistance properties, the strength and hardness are properties that are significantly higher than the former. The Monel K500 Seamless Pipe is designed to be used in heat exchanger applications. Industries like oil and gas, or marine engineering use the ASME SB 163 UNS N05500 as they are able to hold out elevated temperatures, without getting corroded.
This specification cases two dimensions i.e. either the outside diameter and average wall, or the outside diameter along with minimum wall tube. The mechanical properties and chemistry of the Monel K500 Seamless Tube are required to conform to the ASTM B163. Generally, there are various test methods used to analyse the product. For instance, methods such as rounding procedure, tension test, Rockwell hardness, chemical analysis, grain size as well as hardness conversion are employed on the ASTM B163 UNS N05500. An area, where this alloy is engaged is in sour wells. The environment in a sour service well is highly corrosive and the deposition of the resultant bi-products on the walls of a conventional steel pipe in conjunction with a higher temperature would lead to the formation of cracks. Unlike their conventional counterparts, using the Monel K500 Pipe is beneficial for this particular application, as they exhibit high resiliency and durability.
